Startup Poland - The polish tech scene. 5 years

The report, entitled “The Polish Tech Scene. 5 Years” will have its premiere on December 4 during the Impact fintech’19 conference in Katowice. It is the most prestigious and important publication on the startup market in our country. Through the Startup Poland foundation, it will reach representatives of companies, investors, and media all over the world.

Wrocław wins

This year’s report was prepared on the basis of a survey in which a record 1235 startups from the whole country took part. The publication shows that the highest density of young technological companies is in Wrocław and Lower Silesia (capital cities and regions are described together).

There is one startup per 4.5 thousand inhabitants.

– If there is a Silicon Valley in Poland, it is in Lower Silesia and Wrocław, specialists from Startup Poland say.

Additionally, two universities from Wrocław are among those that cooperate best with startups. The first place in this category was taken by Wrocław University of Technology and the seventh place by Wrocław University of Economics.

– The results of the Startup Poland report clearly show that Wrocław is a very good place to start and develop a technology company. As a city we still want to be involved in building startup ecosystem, co-create conditions, in which great business ideas will turn into business successes – emphasizes Jacek Sutryk, mayor of Wrocław. – In this context the role of universities is also very important and that is why I am also very pleased with the high mark for Wroclaw University of Technology and Wroclaw University of Economics – adds Sutryk.

Robotics and Industry 4.0

The technological profile of Wrocław startups described in the Startup Poland report is very interesting. Most of them, 25 percent, deal with analytics and business analysis [BI].

Other categories include robotics and electronics (19%), Industry 4.0 (18 %), Big Data management (18%) and artificial intelligence and machine learning [AI&ML] (17%).

Wrocław in the case of analytics, Industry 4.0 or robotics has the highest indicators in the country. As far as Big Data or AI is concerned, we are second in Poland.

– So you can see that our startups create solutions in very important and future-oriented fields – says Magdalena Okulowska, president of the board of the Wroclaw Agglomeration Development Agency.

According to the report, young technological companies from Wrocław are eager to employ. In this aspect, our city was ranked third in the country. In 2019, Wrocław startups most often increased their team by up to 10 people.
