Startup Wroclaw has joined forces with the local government of the Lower Silesian Province and, together with companies under the auspices of the Going Global program, is presenting young entrepreneurs from Wrocław.
“The rules of the game in the economy and in building competitive advantages have changed. We were already cheap, today we compete with innovation, and startups are the lever of innovation. That is why we must take care of them and give them a chance to develop and appear at fairs such as Web Summit. These are connected vessels. Without innovative startups, there is no innovative region”
emphasizes Magdalena Okulowska, president of ARAW.
Startups need support at conferences
“We are creating a training system that supports the strengthening of the framework and drive of our body, i.e., the hip girdle muscles. We do this through an app that shows what exercises should be done and in what order” describes Jan Surudo, co-founder of the startup BackApp (and the tryVinci project).
“We know what costs this type of event entails. It is absolutely beyond the reach of a startup, because we have to invest funds in product development in order to convince as many customers as possible. Here we can look for real business traction to turn a startup into a company.”

Kasper Stasiak and the startup Awakast, of which he is a co-founder, won this year’s Tech Contest as part of Made in Wrocław. “Web Summit is great, we’ve had lots of visitors since the morning, as well as very interesting and inspiring conversations. The opportunity to showcase Lower Silesia here and be among the companies that can present themselves here is an amazing experience and opportunity for us.”
Kasper admits that for him, the fair is primarily about potential customers. “The e-commerce solution with which we won the Made in Wrocław competition is what visitors are interested in,” he says.
It’s not just beginners here
Kamil Walkowiak is the co-founder of C:UX, a company that studies the behavior of users of applications, websites, and social media.
“We are primarily involved in analytics, understanding what users do on websites and in mobile applications, and when these channels are connected. Since we live in Lisbon on a daily basis, this is a place and an opportunity for us to talk to partners from Poland. But we are looking for other potential partnerships, both clients and technology partners, with whom we could also establish cooperation.”

“As Quantum Connect, we are the creators of the Heyoo app,” says Łukasz Urbański, CTO of the startup. “This app is a virtual business card and a personal website at the same time.”
Although Łukasz Urbański says about his project, “this isn’t my first rodeo,” he sees that there is a lot of interest in Heyoo at Web Summit. “Web Summit will pass, and the app created for this purpose will be forgotten. However, I think that for the people who came here, this is not the only event of the year. Thanks to Heyoo, they don’t have to worry about anything, think about tickets, another app, or printed QR codes.
ChallengeRocket is a place where people can showcase their talents and prove themselves in various competitions and challenges. As the creator of the startup, Tomasz Florczak, says, the best ones can get jobs in interesting companies around the world. “This is instead of the traditional ‘headhunting’ which can get lost in the recruitment process,” he adds.
“In a nutshell, we are looking for customers and distribution partners here. A side effect is the opportunity to meet friends from Wrocław whom we don’t have time to see in our city. But of course, Web Summit is not just about Poles or Portuguese – it is an international event. We have already had customers from the US, Japan, and France. We want to show ourselves to other countries and establish contacts.”

Who else is at Web Summit?
Over 20 startups are presenting themselves at the November fair in Lisbon. A rotation system is in place, and young entrepreneurs take turns at the stands. They already had the opportunity to participate in Founders Night (November 10) – a networking event organized by Startup Founders.
At the Lower Silesia stand, at specially designed tables, they present themselves to investors and customers. They don’t have much time for this – basically the same amount as for a traditional pitch.
