VR, or virtual reality, is a solution that allows users to interact with digital objects. The user, using goggles and controllers, can move in a generated 3D world. Although this field is associated primarily with computer games, it turns out that it can be used in business, education or industry. Students at the School of Banking (WSB) can also use AR technology, which combines the real world with the computer-generated world.
– There has been a growing need for new employees who have the right skills to work in 3D, VR or programming through game engines. At WSB, we saw a partner that could build a one-of-a-kind lab. The cross-section of equipment and technology available is huge. – Jakub Korczynski, CEO of Giant Lazer
New opportunities for computer science students
Digital worlds are a space where, among others, graphic designers and programmers can develop their competences. The Wrocław School of Banking, which has been cooperating with Giant Lazer for several years, trains specialists in this field. The newly opened lab is a result of long term efforts to provide students with the best possible conditions for development.
Virtual reality is limited only by imagination
The studio includes not only virtual reality goggles, but also laptops for programmers or sets for recording movement using a green box located in the room. Although students can test available applications, one of the main objectives of the lab is to create their own solutions that could be used even in industry. VR technology is used e.g. in various types of simulators or for employee training, which is easier to conduct in controlled conditions.
Mateusz Tokarski, Vice President of Giant Lazer: – This is the idea behind this lab – that the academic community can develop these solutions, thanks to the fact that they have the right equipment and all the technical infrastructure to do so. In this way, students can invite business representatives here to cooperate and work together on new concepts.
