WRO Venture Connect. Connecting business angels and VC funds. The first event of its kind in Wrocław

03.03.2025

Experienced business angels from all over Poland, C-level managers, VC funds, and founders took part in the first edition of WRO Venture Connect, which took place on Wednesday, March 12th, at Concordia Design. They discussed how to invest in startups, find unicorns, and build a diversified investment portfolio. WRO Venture Connect is the first event in Wrocław that brings together business angels and VC funds. According to the organizers, it aims to truly transform the Wrocław startup ecosystem, as there has been a lack of a space where these groups can meet to exchange experiences and build partnerships.

“Together with the Wrocław Tech Business Angels Club, we organized this event to integrate the investor community. We talked about how to invest in startups, find unicorns, and build a diversified investment portfolio.”
Krystyna Kardacz, Startup Wrocław

The program featured inspiring panels, discussions with industry representatives, and stories from startups that have achieved market success with the support of investors.

Helping startups spread their wings

The event saw the participation of many business angels. According to Konrad Weiske, CEO and co-founder of SpyroSoft SA, there are startups in which it would be a sin not to invest.

“Key factors include the founders, especially their involvement and dedication, the industry in which they operate, and the technological solution, which must be both innovative and scalable, with potential to be offered globally.”
Konrad Weiske

As the event participants stated, business angels help many startups that do not have the capital to enable rapid growth.

“In the case of companies like ours, which are not yet on the market, business angels provide the capital that serves as a financial boost to build our solution. It is the first expression of trust from investors.”
Aga Kopytko, co-founder, CTO Smabbler

Supporting important investments

The event also featured representatives from public entities.

“We are a public entity, so we strive to act with a mission. We have a full basket of programs, both for funds investing in companies at earlier and later stages of development. We are looking for people with investment experience and teams that are just being formed.”
Piotr Stortz, investment manager at PFR Ventures

Business cannot be done in isolation

As Konrad Weiske states, it is absolutely crucial that events like WRO Venture Connect take place.

“I cannot imagine a business ecosystem without such meetings. I am extremely grateful to the organizers for inviting us all, allowing us to form new connections and create new business links. This is incredibly necessary.”
Konrad Weiske

According to Aga Kopytko, the idea behind such events is great because networking is crucial in both the investment and startup environments.

We cannot do business in isolation; we cannot function without others. Even though online meetings are becoming more common and human touch is rarer, it is even more evident that such events are of great importance."

An opportunity for joint initiatives

According to Piotr Stortz, events like WRO Venture Connect not only encourage but also facilitate connections.

“At such meetings, the first ideas for creating your own startup or VC fund often sprout. We also see that there are people on the market who are trying to find their way and are looking for partners for such ventures. Here, they can meet and create a joint initiative.”
Piotr Stortz
“Such events open our eyes to the fact that there is capital and support available in Poland as well. They also offer an opportunity to exchange information and establish interesting connections.”
