Great success! Wroclaw’s startup ecosystem among the rising stars of tech hubs

12.12.2022

Wroclaw topped Polish cities in the category of rising stars of tech hubs in the just published report "The next generation of tech ecosystems" prepared by Dealroom. The capital of Lower Silesia ranked second in Europe and eighth in the world in this category, a clear indication that it is a great place to set up startups and develop innovations.

The next generation of tech ecosystems report describes the cities it considers to be the largest or most promising innovation hubs. It evaluates cities based on the availability of capital, the innovation and quality of local academic centers, economic development and the pace of startup development. The report includes three categories: pioneers (Trailblazers), technology centers (Science Hubs) and rising stars (Rising Stars).

“Wroclaw, Lower Silesia, has been called Poland’s ‘Silicon Valley’ for years. It is in our region that some of the most innovative projects are created. Here we strive to create friendly conditions for the development of many companies and startups, taking advantage of their knowledge and solutions. And today we can proudly say that this brings tangible results. To a large extent, this is due to the activity of the Startup Wroclaw team, established within the Wroclaw Agglomeration Development Agency, whose main task is to animate and integrate the local startup community. The synergy between startups, business, science and city institutions create the foundation for an excellent business ecosystem, which is growing at an incredible pace in our city.”
– says Jacek Sutryk, Mayor of Wroclaw

Wroclaw better even than Warsaw

Dealroom.co conducted a comparative analysis of 201 technology centers from around the world. Among the leaders of the ranking were Wroclaw (in 8th place out of 32 cities identified) and Warsaw (in 11th place). Among other things, they measured the maturity of ecosystems and their preparedness for the future. Wroclaw was recognized primarily for the growth of early financing for local companies, the development of mature startups and the low cost of business development.

“The distinction in the Dealroom report is a result of the cooperation and commitment of the Wroclaw ecosystem, and a sign that the joint efforts of various entities are yielding positive results. In the 2021 Polish Startups report, Wroclaw took second place, second only to Warsaw. Today we have come out on top and are becoming a major technology center on the map of Poland and Europe.”
– Magdalena Okulowska, CEO of the Wrocław Agglomeration Development Agency
